Time for the Crazies

And as we all know, Rush Limbaugh can be as crazy as they come.  He is getting his reality mixed up with fantasy.  Yesterday on his radio show (and why does he still have one??), he made this conspiracy theory:  The villain in the new Batman move is named Bane and it is a "purposeful" attempt to equate villainy to Romney's Bain capital, and it will influence voters."  Now, he thinks that the moviegoers are all "a lot of brain-dead people, entertainment, the pop-culture crowd. And they’re going to hear ”Bane” in the movie, and they are going to associate Bain."  (Entertainment Weekly)

Why is he worried about the brain-dead?  And really, it is not like they changed the name of the villain just to associate Bane with Bain.  The villain has been around since 1993, first appearing in "Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1". (WIKI)  Bain Capital has been around since 1984.  Bane, "although primarily a villain, ... is a complex character and has worked to take down drug lords." Bain "is one of the world's leading private investment firms managing approximately $65 billion in assets under management." (Bain Capital)

Not sure there are two many similarities between the two.  Now, Bane "has sometimes had Batman's financial backing and direct assistance."  Perhaps, Bain Capital and Batman have more in common?

Doubt that.

Because the Bible Tells Me So

There are some people out there who probably ought not read the bible.  They definitely take it too seriously sometimes.  Pastor Curtis Knapp, of New Hope Baptist Church in Seneca, Kansas, probably ought not.  In a recent sermon he stated that the government should start killing homosexuals because that's what the bible says.  (JoeMyGod)

"Is it His word or not? If it’s His word, he commanded it. It’s His idea, not mine. And I’m not ashamed of it. He said put them to death.  You got a better idea? A better idea than God?"  Well, I am not so sure God himself wrote the bible.  There were a few other guys during that time that had their pens to paper.

There are a few other things that the other guys, saying it was from God, jotted down.  No playing football: "You shall not eat of their flesh nor touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you." (Pigskin)  No tattoos: "You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the Lord."  No polyester: "nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together." Expensive clothes and jewelry: "Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments." (11Points.com)

Doubt the pastor preached on these.  And what about that part that God wrote about "Thou shalt not kill"?  If it's His word, he commanded it, right?

Don't Fence Me In

One man's plan to rid the world of homosexuals has gone, as they say, 'viral':

"I figured a way out, a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers, but I couldn't get it past the Congress,”

“Build a great big, large fence – 50 or 100 miles long – and put all the lesbians in there.  Fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the queers and the homosexuals, and have that fence electrified so they can't get out. Feed them. And you know in a few years, they'll die out. You know why? They can't reproduce."  (CNN.com)

What about this idea that a "man of the cloth" wants to kill off people?  Isn't that no killing thing in the top 10 things you aren't allowed to do?  Now, some church members, who declined to give their names, defended their pastor, saying his words had been taken out of context. "He said he would feed them!" Oh, so he is not killing them, just not letting them reproduce.

So, the pastor at the Providence Road Baptist Church thinks that fencing in the queers and lesbos is going to make them go away?  Does he know where queers and lesbos come from?  Straight parents.

Perhaps there should be another fenced in area.  How about those "men of the cloth" who sexually abused kids, that is proven in 4,000 pages from the confidential files of nine Franciscan religious brothers who were accused, and the $28 million that was paid to the victims?  (HuffingtonPost.com)

Maybe they need to be corralled and have food air-dropped.  And maybe the pastor from North Carolina can join them.

Is it Politics, Religion or Just Hate?

You all know what "it" is.  "It" is homosexuality.  And, so, is the lack of equality therein related to politics, religion or hate?  Many stand by the politics.  Left-Wing liberals want equality for all.  Right-Wing conservatives want no equality.  Many stand by religion.

A Danish vicar refused to perform a funeral for a dead 74 year old lesbian because he wouldn't perform weddings, and would "not therefore perform other church services for gays."  (PinkNews.co.uk)

But, perhaps the religious is all wrong.  Maybe the religious basis has been misunderstood and/or mistranslated.  Daniel A. Helminiak, who was ordained a priest in Rome, is a theologian, psychotherapist and author.  He definitely thinks that all these people just didn't understand exactly what the bible was saying.  He thinks "the Bible is ho-hum on homosexuality." (CNN.com)

Even in the sin of Sodom, it isn't actually homosexuality that the bible is pointing out.  It is more: "pride, lack of concern for the poor and needy (Ezekiel 16:48-49); hatred of strangers and cruelty to guests (Wisdom 19:13); arrogance (Sirach/Ecclesiaticus 16:8); evildoing, injustice, oppression of the widow and orphan (Isaiah 1:17); adultery (in those days, the use of another man’s property), and lying (Jeremiah 23:12)."

Then in Romans 1:26-27: "Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another."  In the Greek text, the phrase that was used was para physin.  This was translated to mean "unnatural," but "it should read atypical or unusual."

In another section, Romans 11:24, Paul used the para physin to describe what God did when he "grafted the Gentiles into the Jewish people," inserting a bad plant into the cultivated vine.  It was an unusual thing to do, not standard practice.  Paul wasn't calling God unnatural.  He was saying this was atypical.

The religious calling homosexuality sinful and unnatural because the bible tells them so, is wrong.  So, if it ain't religion, that leaves politics...

or just hate.

Yabba, Dabba, Do

So to say that Tennessee has some issues dealing with social topics is an understatement.  They have problems with women.  And losing the head basketball coach ain't it.  Republican candidate Garry Loe said he wholeheartedly supports women on the issues of housing, education and jobs, but is absolutely an anti-abortion advocate.  (RhrealityCheck.org)

Tennessee also wants to protect gun rights.  Even when it is illegal.  Tennessee Republican Tea Party lawmaker Jeremy Faison is pushing a bill that would protect gun owners who just “didn’t see” a sign prohibiting guns. So if there is a sign that says "No Guns", this law would "give gun owners a defense in cases where they didn’t see a sign prohibiting guns.” (TheNewCivilRightsMovement.com)

Then there's gay rights.  There was a "controversial bill in Tennessee meant to restrict public school discussion of sexuality and LGBT issues."  They didn't want anybody to say "gay".  But, that might not happen now.  The key GOP sponsor announced on Monday that he simply wouldn't bring it up. (HuffingtonPost.com)

So maybe things are looking up in Tennessee.  Perhaps Fred and Barney should still stay away.  Probably wouldn't be able to have a "gay ol' time" there anyway.

Now that explains it all...

Somethings are difficult to explain.  Like why Santorum stays in the race (He is carrying the flag for the conservative movement - WashingtonPost.com).  Or why he would use rarely enforced obscenity laws to handcuff the pornography industry. (Porn stars are firing back! PhillyMag.com)  Or why some people have socially conservative political views in the first place.

Well, a new study may just explain it all, linking conservative ideologies to "low-effort" thinking. (HuffingtonPost.com)  Ahh, the low effort approach.  In one part of the study, bar patrons were asked about social issues before blowing into a Breathalyzer.  The higher their blood alcohol levels were, the more likely they were to be conservative.

And not just in bars.  "Keeping people from thinking too much...or just asking them to deliberate or consider information in a cursory manner can impact people's political attitudes, and in a way that consistently promotes political conservatism," Dr. Eidelman said about tests conducted in a lab setting.

In another study, "Psychological Science" showed that children who score low on intelligence tests gravitate toward socially conservative political views in adulthood.

Low intelligence/Low effort = conservatives... that does explain a lot.

Listen to What I Say... But Not What I Said

Maybe that is what good ol' Rick wants everybody to do.  First he says "The issue in this race is not the economy.," but the real issue is "because we have a government that is oppressing its people and taking away their freedom."  And that is important now!  (HuffingtonPost.com)

So, he wants the government out of people's lives.  That makes sense.  Except... when it comes to certain 'social issues' that Mr. Santorum wants the government right in the middle of.  Things like abortion and birth control.  He wants people to be able to have their freedom, unless it comes at the cost of something he disagrees with.  The right to choose is a freedom.

He also wants to interrupt another 'freedom'. He wants an end to pornography.  He thinks the Obama Administration is 'soft' on porn.  He thinks the Justice Department under President Obama “seems to favor pornographers over children and families.”  So, let's get the government in on that!  That is important now!  (WashingtonPost.com)

But, it is what he says, not what he said.  He didn't think that Penn State was soft on pedophilia in the Sandusky case.  Nor does the devout Catholic think he has to "grade the Catholic Church" on the pedophilia there.  So, let's just stay out of those areas.  (LezGetReal)

The one thing Rick ought to watch out for though, is who he might be intruding on in the porn area.  From the NewScientist:  "Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds."  (TheNewCivilRightsMovement.com) So, Rick's supporters are buying the stuff.

Wonder if they will still vote for him...

I am Sure They Never Thought of These:

With all the talk about how homosexuality and same-sex marriage is just so wrong - because the Bible tells us so, the Huffington Post  makes the point that all the Bible thumpers may not be living up to all that the Bible forbids.

Tattoos are out...
  • Leviticus 19:28 states:
  • Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.
Only long hair and long beards are in... Santorum's hair is too round...
  • Leviticus 19:27 states:
  • Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.
Gee, ever get kicked in the stones?
  • Deuteronomy 23:1 states:
  • He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
Don't read your horoscope Mrs. Bachmann to see if your husband still loves you...
  • Leviticus 19:31 reads:
  • Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
Sarah Palin may have to give up her job at Fox News...
  • Leviticus 19:16 states:
  • Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour; I am the LORD.
Ok, ladies, don't defend your husbands...
  • Deuteronomy 25:11-12 states:
  • When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets
  •
  • Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.
Mitt, no more ham sandwiches... or Lobster tail..
  • Leviticus 11:7-8 reads:
  • And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.
  • Leviticus 10-11 states:
  • And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you.
Newt, this one is for you... and your 2nd and 3rd wives...
  • Mark 10:11-12 states:
  • Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
  • Deuteronomy 22:20-21 states:
  • But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:
  •
  • Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you
Does football count as work?
  • Exodus 31:14-15 states:
  • "Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
  •
  • Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD:
Women, keep your mouths shut in church...
  • 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 states:
  • Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

Will There Be Any Candidates?

The GOP in Laurens County South Carolina probably won't have too many.  "Last Tuesday, the LCGOP unanimously adopted a resolution that would ask all candidates who want to get on the primary ballot to sign a pledge with 28 principles" that include the usual opposition to abortion and upholding gun rights, and a "compassionate and moral approach to Teen Pregnancy", whatever that might mean.  (TPMMuckraker)

But the LCGOP may have gone a bit too far.  Also part of the 28 is "abstinence before marriage", being "faithful" to your spouse, no spouses of the same gender and a big no to civil unions for people of the same sex.  And the big one?  No more looking at pornography.

Not sure how well that bodes for Newt Gingrich.  He won the South Carolina Primary in January.  He beat good Ol' Mitt by 12 percentage points. (NYTimes.com)  But, makes one wonder how the Republicans in Laurens County think about his 3 wives - 2 of which he was unfaithful to with obvious no-abstinence before marriage to a few of them.

Good Ol' Republican Hypocrisy:  Do as I say, not as I do...  Wonder if Rick or Mitt look at Porn??

Complicit in Bigotry

That is what Brent Bozell, founder and president of the Media Research Center, Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, Brian Burch, president of Catholic Vote, Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, Richard Viguerie chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, and Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council are telling the Huffington Post. (FoxNews.com)

The Conservative leaders are saying that based on a "satirical" piece written by columnist Larry Doyle about Rick Santorum's Catholic faith.  "Larry Doyle's recent anti-Catholic screed in the Huffington Post, 'The Jesus-Eating Cult of Rick Santorum,' is bigoted and unacceptable" they claim.  They say it is a "perfect example of 'flame-throwing, name-calling, and simplistic attack dog rhetoric.'"

Let's consider flame-throwing... The American Family Association (AFA) is saying that President Obama has started an “all out war on Christians” making them choose between "Life and good … or death and evil.” This as a result of merely offering contraception coverages to women via insurance.  (TheNewCivilRightsMovement.com)

Or perhaps a little attack doggery... A priest at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland refused communion to a woman at HER MOTHER'S FUNERAL because she is a lesbian and "in the eyes of the church, that is a sin."  He also never finished the service, walking out during the daughter's eulogy and never returning.  Some, obviously don't see that as a dog attack.  In a letter of apology from Reverend Barry Knestout, he called it "a lack of pastoral sensitivity."  (Lez Get Real)

So, it is ok for the Church and the AFA to be complicit in bigotry... could certainly think of a few names to call on that one.

Doing What You Are Good At...

Or not.  There is a list of things that Sarah Palin has done and is doing.  She has not really been good at doing any of them.  Her most obvious fail, of course, was her run as Vice President with John McCain.  And then there was that Governorship up in Alaska that she quit at with 18 months left to serve.  (WashingtonPost.com)

And yeah, she gets paid a lot of money to be an "Analyst" on Fox News.  But when she announced that she was not going to run for President in 2012, something else she might fail at, she was blasted by Fox News Chief Roger Ailes.  He told Newsweek that he hired Palin when she was "hot," and her announcement on Mark Levin's conservative talk-radio program deprived Fox News of a ratings bonanza.  Palin hasn't turned into the television asset Ailes had hoped... and might  not be there after her contract is up in 2013.  (NYMag.com)

Now, Juliann Moore, who is playing Palin in the movie “Game Change" on HBO, doesn't think it is all Sarah's fault.  She thinks it is the McCain campaign to blame.  "They were telling her what to do and how to dress. And how to behave,” Moore said. (Politico.com)

So, then what can Sarah do?  Well, apparently, she can't even play herself.  At least according to the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation, or the Razzie's.  The Razzie's highlight the duds of U.S. cinema.  The former Alaska governor snagged a nomination for worst actress while playing herself in the documentary, “The Undefeated.”  (ABCNews.com)

What should Sarah do?  Not be Vice President, Governor, President, TV Analyst - or even herself.  Maybe she will just have to go away, then...

Keep them Quiet

And keep them pregnant.  Last week the GOP "leaders" at the House held an all-male hearing on contraception.  This was seen by some as a continuing battle that the GOP is waging on women.  "Today, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced Democrats will hold a House hearing Thursday on the issue of contraception and women’s health, and the key witness will be the woman the Democrats tried to get on Issa’s panel to testify, but who was refused." (TheNewCivilRightsMovement.com)  But the GOP still wants to keep it quiet.

The House Administration Committee, chaired by Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Calif, has issued a decree that there will be no public video or recording made of Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke’s testimony - who was to testify that about a classmate who lost an ovary because of a condition that causes ovarian cysts - which is treatable by birth control, but not covered by the Catholic-Church backed University.  The "black-out" is unprecedented and leads some to believe that the House Republican leadership is still trying to silence women on women's health.

But perhaps it is time to turn the tables.  "A group of female Democratic legislators in the Georgia House of Representatives has proposed a bill that would ban men from seeking vasectomies." "Thousands of children are deprived of birth in this state every year because of the lack of state regulation over vasectomies," said bill author Yasmin Neal.  (HuffingtonPost.com)

The male counterparts in Georgia, however, don't think it is funny.  They want to push through a bill that seeks to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, instead of the current 24 weeks or after the 2nd trimester.

So... passing male based health laws is bad -and must be a joke, but passing female based ones is perfectly within the rights of the male legislators.

Maybe those women out there ought to just stop having sex with those men.  Maybe then the men will keep their noses out of what ain't their business.

The War on Women

It started with the contraception issue and now continues, pathetically, in the state of Virginia.  "The Virginia legislature has passed a bill that will force women seeking an abortion to undergo a medically unnecessary trans vaginal ultrasound." (HuffingtonPost.com)  That is a true birds-eye view of the uterus and surrounding organs, for no real medical reason, meant probably to embarrass and change the mind of the woman.

And back to the contraception issue in the war.  "As part of the same package, the legislature also enacted a 'personhood' law that would define life to begin at the stage of a fertilized egg, even before implantation, and hence would outlaw many forms of contraception and all abortions."  Amazing what a state can do. And as the author of this Huff Post article, Tobias Barrington Wolf, so rightly says "Every person who has a body should view this law as a direct assault. So, too, should every person who believes that women are human beings."

Because women aren't supposed to be human beings (?).  Most "public policies are responsive to the priorities and sensibilities of men."  The thought of a law that required men to have "an invasive rectal probing and prostate exam, for no medical reason, before obtaining a prescription for Viagra" would never get very far.

Although... it is a good thought.

Well, What I Meant to Say...

In our current era of politics, we do get to hear a lot about what they "meant" to say.  But generally, the first thing out of someone's mouth is what they really mean and the second thing is said to smooth over and make everyone think that it's all going to be ok.  Rick Santorum is doing that today.
First, what came out of his mouth was:  "But I do have concerns about women in front-line combat, I think that could be a very compromising situation."  And in the same breath said it was because "emotions that are involved."  (HuffingtonPost.com)

What he meant to say... after NBC's Ann Curry suggested that some had interpreted his original remarks to be a commentary on "women being emotional," wasn't that he was blaming women for emotions but, rather, how "men would react to seeing women in harm's way, or potentially being injured or in a vulnerable position, and not being concerned about accomplishing the mission."  So, see, what he meant to say is that men wouldn't be able to handle women in combat...

Then, on another occasion, not trying to hurt women again, he said that the Affordable Care Act providing birth control was not "about contraception.  It's about government control of your lives and it's got to stop."  (Yahoo.com)  He probably meant to say that.  But, that doesn't follow what he has said before.

What he said at the beginning of the year has a lot to do with government control of lives.  He said that he would pass a nationwide law that would define marriage as that one man - one woman type and "any now-legal same-sex marriages would be invalid."  (HuffingtonPost.com)

So, what he meant to say is... whatever I believe is the only truth and I will do whatever I want when you elect me.   So There!

Everybody is Being Assaulted

Well, at least according the GOP candidates.  Well, not that they are talking much about the real victims of assault, however. In all of the GOP debates (all 1 million of them) "poverty and the poor has rarely come up."  (ParagouldDailyPress.com)  So, it really comes as a surprise that these guys would talk about the victims of any assault without mentioning the poor.  But then again, who are the victims here?

First there are the "Religious Groups."  With the Affordable Care Act's rule that "requires all employers to cover birth controls for their workers," the guys have the panties in a ruffle:

  • MITT ROMNEY, GOP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Remarkably, under this president's administration there is assault on religion
  • NEWT GINGRICH, GOP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Many of you may have noticed that the Obama administration has declared war on the Catholic Church
Rick Santorum wasn't so much thinking that religion was under attack as much as he was worried the "elitist" government was going to take away his freedoms.  (FoxNews.com)

And speaking of freedoms. Santorum, who said last week he doesn't believe gay couples "benefit society", was all worried that the 9th Circuit Court "ripping" away the 7M California voter's rights in finding Prop 8 unconstitutional.  Romney says this:  "Today, unelected judges cast aside the will of the people of California."  Newtie wants to "end judicial supremacy."  So, in this case 7M California homophobes are the victims.  And it is the supreme, unelected judges who are assaulting them.  (Gay.net)

Not sure exactly why these guys get to decided on birth control or proper marriage - especially Newtie on that one.  But gee, there are 9 more months of campaigning, and who knows how many million more debates, and we are stuck listening to these 3.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Really Mitt? Really?

It's bad enough that you donate money to anti-gay hate groups: "The Romney family's Tyler Charitable Foundation donated $10,000 in one year to the anti-gay Massachusetts Family Institute—a Boston based organization that promotes ex-gay therapy." (Gay.net) But now you are aligning yourself with a guy who says that teh gayz caused the 9/11 tragedy?  Really?

It must be important to win the right-wing, ultra-conservative GOP nod.  And it also must be important to blame everything on Marriage Equality and Gays.  Pastor Roberto Miranda spoke in 2006 to 'counter' the radical “homosexual agenda” that he believes will destroy religious freedom.  He told the group in Boston that since Massachusetts had allowed same-sex marriages and the planes on 9/11 had left from Boston there was "prophetic significance."  (Gay.net) And  now he is one of the conservative leaders who authored “Florida Social Conservatives Sign on to Letter Praising Mitt Romney’s Record.”

Not sure you want that record, Mitt... crazy is as crazy does.

And This Guy Wants to be President??

There are some who refer to Republican contenders as members of the GOP Clown Car.  And looking at a few stories today, it might be that this one is the star clown.  Just imagine Newt with a big red nose and orange fluffy hair.  It fits.

The Star Clown laid out an extensive plan to have a permanent U.S. base on the moon by the end of his second term as president.  (CBSNews.com)  That's right he wants to go to the moon.  He thought it might appeal to the Florida voters, getting NASA all blasted off again.  "When we have 13,000 Americans living on the moon, they can petition to become a state."

This is not the first time the Star Clown has had some out of this world type of ideas.  Back in 1984 Newt combined his "passion for public policy and his passion for living room furniture."  His first steps in his own "Health Chair Reform".  "A personalized health chair with a diagnostic program to measure and compare all your bodily signs against your own data base. The chair could be tied into a weight-watcher's computer-based recipe program."  (MotherJones.com)

So, the circus has begun and the clown car is making its rounds.  Crazy enough that he designed a weight-watcher's chair (especially looking at his girth), but he really thinks that people are going to elect him TWO TIMES to the presidency???  (See "the end of his second term" above).

Name Dropping

Generally in an election year, it is not too odd to have some candidate or another "drop names".  It usually shows how many folks are encouraging their run, or how many are monetarily supporting it.  But, when a candidate starts dropping the Big Guy's name, you just want to shout "STOP!"  Rick Santorum and his group have been doing that a lot lately.

First, his "honorary chairman" in the Florida campaign says gays "make God want to vomit."  That would be "the Rev. O'Neal Dozier, a firebrand social conservative" who also has said "that Mitt Romney was bound not for the White House, but for hell." (MotherJones.com)  Maybe he knows the way there, because he's headed there himself?

Now, another aide to Santorum has decided that a woman can't be president.  He asks the question “Is it God’s highest desire, that is, his biblically expressed will, … to have a woman rule the institutions of the family, the church, and the state?” (Care2.com)  This Iowa coalitions director, Jamie Johnson, would think it abhorrent and un-Biblical if the woman's place was in the "House" instead of in the "home".

But, then there is good ol' Ricky himself.  When asked why he opposes abortion even in cases of rape, he said that women should "make the best out of a bad situation."  He goes on (and on, and on, and on...) "accept this horribly created" baby, because it was still a gift from God, even if given in a "broken" way.  (HuffingtonPost.com)

So, don't make God throw up, don't let God catch some woman not doing her wifely duties and definitely bring God's "broken" baby into the world... because Rick Santorum said so.

Ok, Who is Spiking the Tea?

Well, that would be the tea of certain Tea Party groups out there.  It seems the Tennessee Tea Party wants to erase some 188 years of history.  You know, because it "tarnishes" the reputations of the founding fathers.  God Forbid that the children of today realize that the Fathers of yesterday were slave owners or intruded on the Indians.  (PamsHouseblend)

"A coalition of Tennessee Tea Party groups has formulated a list of 'demands'... to compel the teaching of students in Tennessee the truth regarding the history of our nation and the nature of its government." They want "no portrayal of minority experience" in history.  C'mon, the founders are just guys "who brought liberty into a world where it hadn't existed, to everybody -- not all equally instantly."  (HuffingtonPost.com)

Well, yeah, the US Civil Rights Act didn't happen until 1964.

Wonder if the tea guzzlers are going to want to erase any history of Santorum in the next 100 years if any non-discrimination laws for LGBTs get passed here soon?

Personal Lives

Today, FauxNews.com asked the all important question "Should voters consider a candidate's private life?"  This comes after the debate last night and the questions to Newt about his sanctified request for an "open marriage" with his second wife.  (FoxNews.com)  He even responded to the question “I am appalled that you would begin a presidential debate on a topic like that.”

But why not ask the questions about their personal lives?  All they want to do is run our personal lives.  They all tout their ideals on abortion, same-sex marriage, taxes, health care.  All of these things effect our personal lives.  So, ask a man, who declares his support for the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman, why the hell he married three women?  Or, ask a man who says he is "Defending the Dignity of Every Human Life" (RickSantorum.com), why he is a homo-phobic gay basher?

The personal lives of America are at risk here.  Surprisingly, the voters on the Faux News poll want the questions asked.  Yes. A candidate's private life is relevant.  51.07%.  It should be 100%, but it is Faux News.

Defining Marriage

The National Organization of Marriage says on their Facebook page today that they are pledging "$250K to fund primary challenges against any Washington State GOP senator who votes to redefine marriage!"  Because God forbid that their be a definition of marriage that includes everybody.  And looking at the comments on the page, there are some folks out there who are just as batty as NOM.  Comments like this prove it: " what about equality for that parent that want to marry their child or brothers and sisters after all they love each other."  (NationForMarriage)

So, let's talk about the definition of marriage...  "A man recently married his deceased girlfriend in a combination funeral and wedding ceremony."  (AOL.com)  Is that a marriage?  Would NOM fight for this one?  It is between one man and one woman.  It just so happens that the one woman is dead.

Maybe NOM would spend $250K to help this guy out.  He sounds like he needs some help.

Procreation

And not just of the recreational variety.  It is one of the main arguments that people put out there as to why same-sex marriage should not be allowed.  During a 'conversation' in New Hampshire with some students, Rick Santorum said "God made men and woman to keep civilization and provide the best environment  to raise children.”  He doesn't necessarily care if people have relationships, “I have no problem if people want to have relationships, but marriage provides a good to society. It’s unique because it is the union that causes children to be raised.”  (ABCNews.com)

So, technically, he is not against gay sex.  He is just against gay marriage.  Now, the Hartford Archdiocese has a different view on the whole thing.  “The church is not against people with same-sex attraction, just their acting out sexually.”  (TowleRoad.com) They have launched a new program called 'Courage' which encourages gay Catholics to live a 'chaste' life by abstaining from having sex, whether they are legally married (as is possible in the state) or not.

Being gay is ok - as long as you don't have sex and don't get married.

Santorum was booed when he left the conversation in New Hampshire.  Shall we throw out a boo to 'Courage' too?

Jose, Can You See?

You know, that's what the first line of the Star Spangled Banner sounds like.  Although that would make it so pro-immigration.  It really says "Oh Say", but one might wonder if Jose could see it.  Many people get the lyrics to the song wrong:

Christina Aguilera turned "O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming" into "what so proudly we watched at the twilight's last [unintelligible lyric]." (PopEater.com)

And Cyndi Lauper has missed the line before.  (EW.com)

Jose Feliciano gave his own rendition in 1968.  And of course Jimi Hendrix gave an interesting interpretation in 1969. (InfoPlease.com)

But now, Indiana State Senator Vaneta Becker (R-Evansville), want to make a law.  She has introduced a bill that would set specific “performance standards” for singing and playing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at any event sponsored by public schools and state universities.  (PamsHouseblend)  Because of course that is more important than potholes or the state budget.  It more important to set guidelines to require that the national anthem be sung with the usual lyrics to the traditional melody — “the way that we normally have it sung or heard throughout most of our state and our country,” or face a $25 fine.

Well, that will give proof that it is still there, right?
