Will There Be Any Candidates?

The GOP in Laurens County South Carolina probably won't have too many.  "Last Tuesday, the LCGOP unanimously adopted a resolution that would ask all candidates who want to get on the primary ballot to sign a pledge with 28 principles" that include the usual opposition to abortion and upholding gun rights, and a "compassionate and moral approach to Teen Pregnancy", whatever that might mean.  (TPMMuckraker)

But the LCGOP may have gone a bit too far.  Also part of the 28 is "abstinence before marriage", being "faithful" to your spouse, no spouses of the same gender and a big no to civil unions for people of the same sex.  And the big one?  No more looking at pornography.

Not sure how well that bodes for Newt Gingrich.  He won the South Carolina Primary in January.  He beat good Ol' Mitt by 12 percentage points. (NYTimes.com)  But, makes one wonder how the Republicans in Laurens County think about his 3 wives - 2 of which he was unfaithful to with obvious no-abstinence before marriage to a few of them.

Good Ol' Republican Hypocrisy:  Do as I say, not as I do...  Wonder if Rick or Mitt look at Porn??

Everybody is Being Assaulted

Well, at least according the GOP candidates.  Well, not that they are talking much about the real victims of assault, however. In all of the GOP debates (all 1 million of them) "poverty and the poor has rarely come up."  (ParagouldDailyPress.com)  So, it really comes as a surprise that these guys would talk about the victims of any assault without mentioning the poor.  But then again, who are the victims here?

First there are the "Religious Groups."  With the Affordable Care Act's rule that "requires all employers to cover birth controls for their workers," the guys have the panties in a ruffle:

  • MITT ROMNEY, GOP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Remarkably, under this president's administration there is assault on religion
  • NEWT GINGRICH, GOP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Many of you may have noticed that the Obama administration has declared war on the Catholic Church
Rick Santorum wasn't so much thinking that religion was under attack as much as he was worried the "elitist" government was going to take away his freedoms.  (FoxNews.com)

And speaking of freedoms. Santorum, who said last week he doesn't believe gay couples "benefit society", was all worried that the 9th Circuit Court "ripping" away the 7M California voter's rights in finding Prop 8 unconstitutional.  Romney says this:  "Today, unelected judges cast aside the will of the people of California."  Newtie wants to "end judicial supremacy."  So, in this case 7M California homophobes are the victims.  And it is the supreme, unelected judges who are assaulting them.  (Gay.net)

Not sure exactly why these guys get to decided on birth control or proper marriage - especially Newtie on that one.  But gee, there are 9 more months of campaigning, and who knows how many million more debates, and we are stuck listening to these 3.

Really Mitt? Really?

It's bad enough that you donate money to anti-gay hate groups: "The Romney family's Tyler Charitable Foundation donated $10,000 in one year to the anti-gay Massachusetts Family Institute—a Boston based organization that promotes ex-gay therapy." (Gay.net) But now you are aligning yourself with a guy who says that teh gayz caused the 9/11 tragedy?  Really?

It must be important to win the right-wing, ultra-conservative GOP nod.  And it also must be important to blame everything on Marriage Equality and Gays.  Pastor Roberto Miranda spoke in 2006 to 'counter' the radical “homosexual agenda” that he believes will destroy religious freedom.  He told the group in Boston that since Massachusetts had allowed same-sex marriages and the planes on 9/11 had left from Boston there was "prophetic significance."  (Gay.net) And  now he is one of the conservative leaders who authored “Florida Social Conservatives Sign on to Letter Praising Mitt Romney’s Record.”

Not sure you want that record, Mitt... crazy is as crazy does.

Is it Sexist?

Or is she just crazy and raging?  The media world is up in arms with a preview pic of Michele Bachmann on the cover of Newsweek.

Conservative blogs are screaming that it is just Newsweek's anti-Republican bias that made them post the picture.  Never would they do that to a male running for office (UNTRUE )

Now maybe Newsweek is just reporting things how they are.  They posted this picture of John McCain:

And it shows that he is old.

So maybe this one is also just reporting the true news.  Bachmann is crazy.
