Complicit in Bigotry

That is what Brent Bozell, founder and president of the Media Research Center, Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, Brian Burch, president of Catholic Vote, Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, Richard Viguerie chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, and Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council are telling the Huffington Post. (FoxNews.com)

The Conservative leaders are saying that based on a "satirical" piece written by columnist Larry Doyle about Rick Santorum's Catholic faith.  "Larry Doyle's recent anti-Catholic screed in the Huffington Post, 'The Jesus-Eating Cult of Rick Santorum,' is bigoted and unacceptable" they claim.  They say it is a "perfect example of 'flame-throwing, name-calling, and simplistic attack dog rhetoric.'"

Let's consider flame-throwing... The American Family Association (AFA) is saying that President Obama has started an “all out war on Christians” making them choose between "Life and good … or death and evil.” This as a result of merely offering contraception coverages to women via insurance.  (TheNewCivilRightsMovement.com)

Or perhaps a little attack doggery... A priest at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland refused communion to a woman at HER MOTHER'S FUNERAL because she is a lesbian and "in the eyes of the church, that is a sin."  He also never finished the service, walking out during the daughter's eulogy and never returning.  Some, obviously don't see that as a dog attack.  In a letter of apology from Reverend Barry Knestout, he called it "a lack of pastoral sensitivity."  (Lez Get Real)

So, it is ok for the Church and the AFA to be complicit in bigotry... could certainly think of a few names to call on that one.

Defining Marriage

The National Organization of Marriage says on their Facebook page today that they are pledging "$250K to fund primary challenges against any Washington State GOP senator who votes to redefine marriage!"  Because God forbid that their be a definition of marriage that includes everybody.  And looking at the comments on the page, there are some folks out there who are just as batty as NOM.  Comments like this prove it: " what about equality for that parent that want to marry their child or brothers and sisters after all they love each other."  (NationForMarriage)

So, let's talk about the definition of marriage...  "A man recently married his deceased girlfriend in a combination funeral and wedding ceremony."  (AOL.com)  Is that a marriage?  Would NOM fight for this one?  It is between one man and one woman.  It just so happens that the one woman is dead.

Maybe NOM would spend $250K to help this guy out.  He sounds like he needs some help.

Do Away the Gay

It is surprising that none of the anti-gay, homophobes out there didn't come up with this great idea.  Maybe the fact that this story proves that homosexuality is natural in all species makes them shy away.  But all the gay-haters have to do is tell everyone that the human race is in jeopardy of extinction and then *presto* do away the gay.

So, at a zoo in Canada, there are these two penguins.  Pedro and Buddy were brought to the zoo to hook up with a couple of eligible females.  Instead the two male penguins bonded with each other.  Now, the zoo is going to isolate them from each other to see if they can get the "boys interested" in looking at the girl penguins. (TheNewCivilRightsMovement)

All that NOM and AFA have to do, then, is convince the world that the human population is going to go bye-bye if we don't stop all this gay-ness.  Make the gays and the lesbians all get together so that the world doesn't lose the wonderful human race.  But, wait!  Several of my homosexual friends have - or are going to have - babies...

Oh, and the Duggars are expecting their 20th baby... they won't let extinction happen.  (MSNBC)

Maybe it's Good News?

The Associated Press tweets today that Maggie Gallagher, the chair of the National Organization for Marriage, has been replaced.  So that may be good news, the Magster will have to stop her bigotry and hate.  Maybe.  The replacement may not be too much better.  The failed Attorney General wannabe for California, John Eastman.  He attempted to have the repeal of Prop 8 overturned while the Gov (Ahnold) was out of the country.  (JoeMyGod)

One would wonder, why was Maggie let go?  Did she need to stay at home and be the good wife?  Or has she changed her stance on equality?  She did attend the reading of Dustin Lance Black's play "8", which re-enacts the Prop. 8 trial.  She maybe now playing with the enemy, as the ticket dollars went to "AFER and Broadway Impact to secure full federal marriage equality."  Or maybe it is just her eating habits.  Obviously she has been through the buffet line a few too many times, and she did munch on some loud food during the reading. (TheAtlanticWire.com)

Now, she says she is going to finish her book "Debating Same-Sex Marriage".  But it probably is more for being the good wife and over-eater.

A Square Circle

It must have something to do with fitting a square peg in a round hole, maybe?  But, no, it is what the National Organization of Marriage said today about "same-sex marriage".  According to Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse of the Ruth Institute, saying "same-sex marriage" is like saying "square circle" because "such an entity is not possible." (NOMBlog.com)

Now, granted, it is obvious that a square can't be a circle and a circle can't be a square.  But a marriage can be with the same sex (and not the kind where you just do it the same way every time).  She also doesn't think that "genderless marriage" works real well either.  She says "Gender is essential to marriage."  Well, ok, it is.  Female is a gender.  If two females get married then you have two genders and that is essential to the marriage.  If you only have one female married, well, then that is whole nother term entirely.

Ok, Dr. Morse, don't say "Same-Sex Marriage" anymore.  If I have dinner with a girlfriend, I don't call it "Same-Sex Dinner".  I just call it Dinner.  (Thanks to a comment on the I-bet-this-turkey-can-get-more-fans-than-NOM facebook page for that one).

So, just call it marriage.
