Listen to What I Say... But Not What I Said

Maybe that is what good ol' Rick wants everybody to do.  First he says "The issue in this race is not the economy.," but the real issue is "because we have a government that is oppressing its people and taking away their freedom."  And that is important now!  (HuffingtonPost.com)

So, he wants the government out of people's lives.  That makes sense.  Except... when it comes to certain 'social issues' that Mr. Santorum wants the government right in the middle of.  Things like abortion and birth control.  He wants people to be able to have their freedom, unless it comes at the cost of something he disagrees with.  The right to choose is a freedom.

He also wants to interrupt another 'freedom'. He wants an end to pornography.  He thinks the Obama Administration is 'soft' on porn.  He thinks the Justice Department under President Obama “seems to favor pornographers over children and families.”  So, let's get the government in on that!  That is important now!  (WashingtonPost.com)

But, it is what he says, not what he said.  He didn't think that Penn State was soft on pedophilia in the Sandusky case.  Nor does the devout Catholic think he has to "grade the Catholic Church" on the pedophilia there.  So, let's just stay out of those areas.  (LezGetReal)

The one thing Rick ought to watch out for though, is who he might be intruding on in the porn area.  From the NewScientist:  "Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds."  (TheNewCivilRightsMovement.com) So, Rick's supporters are buying the stuff.

Wonder if they will still vote for him...

My Mom Could Have Been Convicted of Murder

So, today the state of Mississippi is voting on the "Personhood" bill that would designate inseminated human eggs as legal persons from the "moment of fertilization."  This would make any end to pregnancy (they are pretty much saying abortion and the morning-after pill) legally equivalent to murder.  (MotherJones.com)  But there maybe more to this then meets the eye.


Let's take for example an ectopic pregnancy.  "In an ectopic pregnancy, a fertilized egg has implanted outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tubes."  And when the fetus grows, the tubes burst and the fetus is lost.  (KidsHealth.org)  Some time ago, my mother had an ectopic pregnancy that led to a miscarriage.  According to Mississippi, that's murder... or maybe manslaughter.


What might be more scary, though, is not that a miscarriage could be considered murder in Mississippi.  Republicans in congress are endorsing three similar bills that would extend the rights of legal personhood—including equal protection under the law—to a zygote.  This would make it a Federal law, so no matter where you live, you'd be going to jail.


Maybe Mom will get past the statute of limitations...

Let's Just Add More

So sometime on Halloween, Monday October 31, 2011, the world's population will hit 7 billion people.  The United Nations Population Fund has a few things to say about that.  It is a good sign, because it shows that we are living longer and more children are surviving world wide.  But not everybody has benefited.  "In some of the poorest countries women are having more babies, stymieing development and perpetuating poverty."  (MSNBC.com)


The state of Mississippi doesn't look at things that way, it seems.  Ballot Measure 26, if passed, would say that “human life would begin not at birth but at the moment of fertilization."  This would completely outlaw abortion and could possibly make birth control - pills, IUDs, even condoms - illegal.  All sex would be in trouble, because "fertilized eggs on their own have full legal rights, anything that could potentially block that implantation—something a woman’s body does naturally all the time—could be considered murder."  (PamsHouseblend)


Looks like there could be 7 billion people in Mississippi soon.  Don't know if murder will increase or not, but definitely poverty will increase.

Since When...

does "preventative care" equal abortion?  Well, it seems anytime a women's health issue is discussed the anti-abortion people are right on top of it and complaining that it just gives women the right to kill babies.


Today, the Institute of Medicine recommended that birth control be free of charge under the new federal health care law.  As part of the Institute's task to determine what preventative care is, they deemed birth control as preventative.  Not just for preventing babies, but also care for "controlling hormone imbalances, reducing the severity of menstrual cramps, or dealing with acne." (MotherJones.com)

Now, Jeanne Monahan, director of the Center for Human Dignity at the Family Research Council, says that this means that the morning-after-pill will be free and that is not good since they "act as abortifacients." 

Although the National Institutes of Health and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have said that pregnancy does not begin until a fertilized egg has been implanted.  Morning-after-pills prevent the implantation.


But, since this is a women's health issue, the anti-abortionists will persist.  They would rather not have any abortions or any women avoiding pregnancy using birth control.  They would just want all the women to have to run after all those kids.

You Have the Right to Remain Silent

That is an option you get if you are a criminal.  And according to Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, women who want to get an abortion should be treated the same way.  He signed into law HB 636 that “requires women to be informed of their specific legal rights and options before they undergo an abortion procedure.”   This will require abortion providers in Louisiana to post signs letting these criminals know that coercing an abortion is illegal. Jindal doesn't understand why anyone would oppose the bill.  “Now if we’re giving criminals their basic rights and they have to be informed of those rights, it seems to me only common sense we would have to do the same thing for women before they make the choice about whether to get an abortion.”  Which would work, since Louisiana has some of the harshest anti-choice laws in the country.


So, ladies, not sure if you need to consult an attorney, or whether or not Bobby would provide on for you if you cannot afford one.  Just be careful in Louisiana, practice safe sex.

Oh so that's why they do it...

Well at least according to the founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network.  Yep, good ol' Pat Robertson says that it is all the lesbians fault that the left wants legal abortions.  Somehow, abortions give lesbians an advantage.

Because you see, "if these married women don’t have children, if they abort their babies, it kinda puts them on a level playing field.”  And of course he backs this up because the far left is livid about killing babies and are creating some culture of death.  (NetworkedBlogs.com)

Not sure exactly what Pat would think if a lesbian decided not to have an abortion.  Would that mean she was going against the whole plan??

Justifiable

"Why do we kill people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong?"  This statement is probably directed at capital punishment more than anything.  But the outright killing of any living, walking human being is wrong.  There are some who think that killing any fetus for any reason is wrong, too.  But, abortion currently is a federally protected right - a choice.


Now, in South Dakota, things might be changing.  "A law under consideration in South Dakota would expand the definition of 'justifiable homicide' to include killings that are intended to prevent harm to a fetus."  (MotherJones.com)  So, killing abortion providers would be legal in South Dakota.  And not just the woman getting the abortion would be justified.  Theoretically, a "woman's father, mother, son, daughter, or husband to kill anyone who tried to provide that woman an abortion—even if she wanted one."


South Dakota already has some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the U.S.  There are no local providers there since 1994.  And Planned Parenthood has flown in providers from out of state once a week to help the women of South Dakota.


Amazing where this conservative slant of life is leading this country.  Someday, bartenders might be justifiably shot for DUI related deaths, and fastfood restaurants for deadly diabetes or heart attacks.
